In October 2026 the government of President Abelardo de la Espriella had about 30 objects taken out of the National Museum of Colombia in Bogotá: works on LGBTQ+ and feminist movements, on victims of state violence, and on the 2016 peace agreement with the FARC, including the pen made from a bullet that was used to sign it. Culture Minister Paola Holguín said the museum was not to be "an instrument of political indoctrination"; museum workers said such choices belong to its curatorial committee. Protesters calling it an erasure of history were met with water cannon and tear gas. Where most governments fight over funding, this one edited the museum's account of the country's own war while it was on the walls.
