The October 7 Hamas attacks and Israel's subsequent bombardment of Gaza produced the most acute art-world political fracture since the Vietnam era: curators resigned, artists withdrew from biennials, museums were pressured over funders, and open letters split institutions. For the first time in decades, the question of whether cultural neutrality is a moral position (not a neutral one) became unavoidable.
